In the case of the Hydraulically Actuated Stair, the system has its individual power pack [24V DC motor coupled to a hydraulic pump] that actuates the hydraulic cylinder that will raise and lower the stair.

As an option the folding stair can be interlocked with the truck's park brake so that when the park brake is released the stair will be stowed automatically.
